It’s becoming an increasingly popular tool to book a place to stay for your trip. But, now the Village of Cazenovia is looking at how to handle Airbnb’s and short term rentals.
Mayor Kurt Wheeler said that the Village had received a written formal complaint from a resident alerting them that this was going on. And, he says they’ve also gotten some verbal and in person concerns and inquiries. He says Airbnb’s fall into somewhat of a “gray area” when it comes to Village zoning.
Meanwhile an Airbnb host Cal Nichols says that it’s been a great experience. He says he’s met people from all over the world who stay in his apartment. And he says it’s a boost to the local economy.
“They’re bringing in outside money. It’s not from within the community. And they’re interested in the area, they’re interesting people and it will be a shame to actually ban that activity,” said Airbnb host Cal Nichols.
The public hearing on the matter is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. At this point – officials say there’s no plan to vote on any kind of legislation this month.
